Sine Bayar
Does the task of placing your child in a good school seem daunting? There are countless options and finding the right fit for your child can feel overwhelming. I am here to help you navigate the NYC school maze.
Although I have been a New York City Department of Education Teacher for two decades, the process of finding the right school for my own child and getting her enrolled was arduous and extremely time-consuming. I know I'm not alone in saying that I spent more time researching and applying for my toddler than I did for my own college! I can help you save countless hours and minimize anxiety by sharing my vast knowledge and resources of the NYC school system. After a consultation, you will have the insight and tools you need to proceed confidently with the school selection process.
Sine Bayar has been a resident of New York City as well as a public school teacher for 20 years. She holds a B.S. degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California. In 2003, she was selected to the New York City Teaching Fellows Program where she received a Master’s degree in Special Education at Hunter College. Out of the 8000 Fellows, Sine was among 5 teachers honored with the Award for Classroom Excellence in 2008 for achieving outstanding academic gains in reading for students with disabilities. She is K-12 certified and has vast experience teaching math, science, English and Social Studies. Sine currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her partner and daughter and is one of the only educational consultants who actively practices as an educator in the city.
SCHOOL SELECTION
Throughout her years as a teacher, Sine has directly dealt with the realities of admissions and enrollment in NYC, specializing in Brooklyn's District 14 and Manhattan's District 2 (the largest district in the city). After pursuing educational opportunities for her own child, friends and neighbors, she has also developed a deep understanding of private school options and the steps required for selection. She can advise you regarding the complexities of the Myschools Application, the NYCDOE Gifted and Talented Program, Charter Schools, Independent Schools/ Montessori as well as Pre-K programs and will help you cast a wide net that can result in the best fit for your family.
She can familiarize you with the culture and administration at various schools, provide maps and data, organize school tours, minimize the number of open houses you attend, develop a targeted list of questions and even assist with essays. Sine also provides guidance to families who are relocating to NYC as choosing a neighborhood can have long-term implications for schooling. She takes a backwards planning approach to creating an educational path based on your child’s and family's needs. She will not only help answer your questions but will also help develop a strategic plan for admissions. Sine can also advise you on any special education related inquiries that you may have.
